In this post let us take a look at the jersey numbers of players of Indian cricket team.

 There is no strict rule in assigning or deciding jersey number of a player either from Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) or International Cricket Council (ICC). In simple, there is no role of BCCI or ICC in assigning numbers to jerseys of players.

  • The only criterion followed is no two players of the same team can have the same jersey number.
  • Two players from two different countries can have same jersey numbers. For example, Jersey number of Virat Kohli of India is 18 and that of Trent Boult of New Zealand is also 18.

The team has achieved this rare feat in  the ongoing first ODI versus West Indies held at Narendra Modi International stadium, Ahmedabad. India defeated West Indies by 6 wickets. Let us look at few important stats of India in ODIs: India played its first ever ODI match in the year 1974 vs England at Headingley Cricket Ground at Leeds, England. It was a 55 over match.
