IPL: ORANGE CAP HOLDERS

 

        Indian Premier League is a tournament organised annually by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The tournament was started in year 2008, so far 14 editions have taken place. Orange Cap is the award given to the leading run scorer of the tournament.

  • Virat Kohli still holds the record for most of number of runs scored in a singe season, 973 scored by him in the year 2016.
  • Players of SunRisers Hyderabad have bagged the award most number of times - 4 (David Warner in 2015, 2017 and 2019 and Kane Williamson in 2018 respectively.
  • David Warner of SRH has won the award 3 times in the years 2015, 2017 and 2019, the most in the history of the tournament.
  • Ruturaj Gaikwad of Chennai Super Kings is the only player to won the orange cap without making any international appearance.

    The following table lists the orange cap winners from 2008 to 2021.

The team has achieved this rare feat in  the ongoing first ODI versus West Indies held at Narendra Modi International stadium, Ahmedabad. India defeated West Indies by 6 wickets. Let us look at few important stats of India in ODIs: India played its first ever ODI match in the year 1974 vs England at Headingley Cricket Ground at Leeds, England. It was a 55 over match. India won its first ever ODI match against East Africa at Leeds in the year 1975 during Prudential World Cup. India played its first ODI on home soil against England at Sardar Vallabhai Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad in 1981.   Source: ICC      The ICC Cricket Hall of Fame was launched on 2 January 2009 in association with the Federation of International Cricketers Associations (FICA), as part of the ICC's centenary year celebrations. The ICC Cricket Hall of Fame recognises the achievements of the legends of the game from cricket's long and illustrious history.       There were total 60 inductees at the inception of Hall of Fame in the year 2009, which included 55 membes of FICA Hall of Fame (1999-2003) and 5 new inductees; Wasim Akram, Clarrie Grimmett, Herbert Sutcliffe, Victor Trumper and Steve Waugh respectively.   There are total seven members from India in ICC Hall of Fame. Bishan Singh Bedi and Sunil Gavaskar were part of the 55 members from FICA Hall of Fame. Five more players Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar and Vinoo Mankad were inducted in following years.
